  84. A:  This is the alt.fan.sandra-bullock Frequently Asked Questions (and
  85. answers) file.  If this is your first time reading alt.fan.sandra-bullock
  86. (a.f.s-b), then you should browse through this file to familiarize yourself
  87. with the regular goings on here.  The point of this is to educate new
  88. readers so they'll know the standard fare around here, preventing new user
  89. embarrassment and regular reader irritation.

  92. 1.2 - Q: What's the point of this group?

  94. A: You can tell the point of any group by looking at its name.  'Alt' is a
  95. series of groups about different topics, 'fan' indicates a newsgroup
  96. discussing fans of various things, and 'sandra-bullock' tacked onto the end
  97. indicates this is a fan group about Sandra Bullock.

  102. A:  No, there are no moderators.  The are many regulars around though who
  103. are very familiar with the basic posting guidelines that UseNet readers are
  104. subject to.  This guidelines are clearly laid out below, and it is highly
  105. recommended that new readers familiarize themselves with them.

  136. A:  Remember your audience here.  This group attracts people who are fans
  137. of Sandra.  Therefore, your comments will not be met nicely if they are
  138. presented as flames.  If you present your comments constructively, then
  139. you'll spark actual debate.

  142. 2.2 - Q:  Can I post pictures here?

  144. A: No.  Pictures are commonly referred to as binaries, because of their
  145. encoding for transport on the internet.  UseNet protocols prohibit posting
  146. of binaries in any newsgroup that does not have the word 'binaries' in the
  147. group name.  alt.fan.sandra-bullock is therefore not an appropriate forum
  148. for pictures.  Please use alt.binaries.pictures.celebrities instead (and do
  149. not cross-post them to a.f.s-b).  Or, even better, get a web page and put
  150. the pictures on it!

  153. 2.3 - Q:  Why is there a restriction on the placement of binaries?
  154.  
  155. A: All the binaries are grouped together in 'binaries' groups, so if a site
  156. chooses, they are easy to block.  They'd chose to block them because there
  157. are copyright issues involving transmitted pictures (who owns the image?)
  158. and the fact that binaries take up large amounts of disk space.  Many
  159. disk-space-starved admins drop alt.binaries to save space.  Basically, if
  160. administrators find binaries in a.f.s-b, they'll kill the group and move it
  161. to the alt.binaries section  - restricting its audience and probably losing
  162. subscribers in the move.  This happened to a Paulina Porizkova newsgroup,
  163. for example.

  166. 2.4 - Q:  What about the group alt.fan.sandra-bullock.binaries?
  167.  
  168. A: This group may or may not exist on your news server.  In an effort to
  169. clean up misplaced binary groups in the alt.* hierarchy, Bill Hazelrig
  170. (haz1@nwu.edu) issued the rmgroup message for it on March 12, 1996.  Many
  171. sites did not remove the group however, and it still exists on many sites.
  172. Despite its existence, it is still preferable to use
  173. alt.binaries.pictures.celebrities for pictures of Sandra.  a.b.p.c has a
  174. much better distribution pattern, and follows the naming conventions for
  175. UseNet.  Questions about alt.fan.sandra-bullock.binaries should be
  176. addressed to alt.config, or to your local news administrator.  A separate
  177. alt.fan.sandra-bullock.binaries FAQ is under development.

  180. 2.5 - Q: Where are photos of her?

  182. A:  There are many quality Sandra Bullock image sites on the World Wide
  183. Web.  The photos are easier to view, easier to download, and save bandwidth
  184. in general.  For a list of these sites, consult the Sandra Website List
  185. (currently under development - use the short list at the end of this FAQ in
  186. the meantime).

  189. 2.6 - Q:  What about advertisements and solicitations?

  191. A:  These can take many forms, from solicitations for fantasy baseball
  192. pools, to surveys, to phone sex ads.  All of them are off topic here in
  193. alt.fan.sandra-bullock.  Unless you are soliciting for something narrowly
  194. tailored to Sandra Bullock, please don't post it here.  Even if it is
  195. narrowly tailored, do not post it more than once every five days, or
  196. cross-post it to more than 10 other newsgroups.  There really is no place
  197. for advertisements here in a.f.s-b, while many other newsgroups are
  198. specifically designed to be forums for advertisers and potential customers.

  208. A:  This FAQ isn't really the best place to put a full biography about
  209. Sandra and all the things she's done.  The best place to find the most
  210. current up-to-date information about Sandra's career is on the World Wide
  211. Web.

  216. A: Her agent, in the Wall Street Journal 3/28/96, says she is.  However, it
  217. would seem she only uses the Internet for e-mailing friends and relatives.

  222. A: Unfortunately, if she does she has just been lurking.  Although many
  223. people have faked posts using her name, the real Sandra has never seen or
  224. read alt.fan.sandra-bullock.  She has said in interviews that she is too
  225. afraid to look.

  230. A: Sandra has said that she has an e-mail account, but that it is under a
  231. different name that she won't divulge.  She wants privacy, and her agent
  232. suggests writing a snail-mail letter instead (for the address, see question
  233. 3.7).

  236. 3.5 - Q: Does Sandra have an account on AOL?

  238. A: The America On Line addresses are AT BEST *rumored* to belong to her,
  239. and the AOL profiles to these accounts indicate that they do not (one
  240. indicates it's owner is a "Robert").  If it makes you feel better, go ahead
  241. and send mail to them.  But you're likely just filing mail in a delete
  242. spool somewhere.

  244. Here's what a.f.s-b reader (and web site maintainer) Michael G. McCool had
  245. to say:

  247. "First of all, I don't think that she would actually create a member
  248. profile to be found, and have her mailbox flooded with email, and second,
  249. an account at AOL can have up to 5 different screen names...  Most likely,
  250. this is a hoax by someone."

  252. Sandra did say, on "The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno", that she had an
  253. account on AOL, but that it had taken here several weeks to figure out the
  254. name for it.  This indicates that she came up with a pseudonym, and if
  255. someone were to figure out it was her, she'd probably change it again
  256. quickly.

  261. A:  Apparently not.  She has been on moderated AOL discussion forums
  262. though, being the subject of one.  She is just too afraid to make a public
  263. presence on the net.

  268. A: Sure.  According to Sir Fitz's incredible storehouse of knowledge, her

  278. readers have claimed to have real email addresses to contact her, or even
  279. her real street address.  This information is probably false, and should be
  280. scrutinized before being accepted as fact.

  285. A:  Last year, she dated Don Padilla, a grip from "The Net", who regulars
  286. here started referring to as "Greasy Don."  Apparently Sandra broke up with
  287. Don after he went back for a fling with his former lover Claudia Ontiveros.
  288. Since Don is gone, Sandra takes friends and relatives to Hollywood events,
  289. and hasn't been confirmed to be dating anyone else.

  296. 4.1 - Q: Does Sandra have big feet?

  298. A: Not really.  She worries about it a bit, and people complain about it
  299. every once in a while, but it's not like she's Will Purdue (size 26).

  302. 4.2 - Q: Does Sandra have an annoying voice?

  304. A:  Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, and a good voice is in the
  305. ear of the beholder.  Keep in mind that she is an actress, and does
  306. occasionally alter her voice to fit her role (notably her accent in "Two If
  307. By Sea").

  310. 4.3 - Q: What is her birthday?  How old is she?

  312. A:  Sandra's birthdate is July 26.  What year she was born is a matter of
  313. much debate.  Estimates run anywhere between 30 and 34 years old, depending
  314. on who you ask and what people use as proof.  Keep in mind that Sandra
  315. started school in Europe, and may have graduated high school before she was
  316. 18.  The most common estimate of her age would have her turning 33 in 1997.

  319. 4.4 - Q: Has Sandra posed nude?  Where are the pictures?

  321. A:  This is the single largest controversy in alt.fan.sandra-bullock, and
  322. over the years of debate it is clear that there is no answer.  Several
  323. readers have produced clear evidence of what can technically be called nude
  324. poses.  Sandra jokingly admitted to nude pictures circulating around on the
  325. net - but these are not the blatant fakes that run rampant in some binary
  326. groups.

  328. Sandra probably joked away the nude photos rumor because there probably are
  329. some photos of her nude.  We've seen some that, careful inspection has
